Co-Scholastic Activities

The present education system demands excellence not only in Academics but also in Sports and Cultural activities. A day at our school is structured in such a way that children have adequate time for reading, writing, creative activities, outdoor games and play.

All the activities are designed to build a child’s overall personality. About a third to half of a day is spent on large group teaching time that includes story time, lecture, demonstrations, large group discussions, conceptual explanations and group goal setting.

Small group learning activities also form a significant part of the day and include worksheets, laboratory time, library time, computer time and group discussions. We ensure that every day some time is reserved for conducting hobby courses that boost the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health of the students. Several other initiatives and activities are also underway.

Introduction

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”

— Winston Churchill

Participation in social, economic and welfare activities as a part of education is a promise that we make for “Social Empowerment through Work education and Action”. Students get a sense of community service and develop self-reliance. This is an endeavour by CBSE that aims to focus on the mental, emotional and the health of a student.

SEWA programme has been designed to raise awareness on addressing real-world problems and serving the world community. For the past few years, Vishwa Vidyapeeth children of grades 6 and above have been required to do a yearly 30 to 50 hours (based on the grade) of social service as part of the curriculum and this has helped students develop themselves as responsible citizens of our society.

The programme calls upon the students of CBSE wing to partake in the events of community service and charity, and to initiate awareness programmes in the community to bring to light the issues of the 21st Century.

We have tuned the SEWA for the upcoming year keeping the present scenario in mind. We would like children to understand that working towards the cause of under-privileged or differently abled emphasises on the interdependence of human beings and makes them aware of their duties towards the human kind.

What exactly do children do under the SEWA programme?

  • Various programmes are organised under SEWA like raising awareness about environment, population control, sanitation & hygiene, health, recycling, swachh bharat, wildlife preservation, health camps, etc. as well as volunteering programmes like interaction with children in Government schools and visit to orphanages & old age homes.
  • Children are motivated to prepare their SEWA portfolio by the end of the year to summarise their works done over the year. This consists of the event’s summary, a letter from the institution where they visited, photographs of the programme, their report on the same and survey sheets (if any involved) corrected and stamped by the concerned teacher. This will help them to maintain a documented evidence of the activities done throughout the year and capture the emotional changes they have experienced with such programmes.

Aptitude Based Competitions:

Vishwa Vidyapeeth prepares your child for the future with a global insight in mind. Our students are equipped with academic excellence, confidence and leadership qualities that they need, to face any challenges in the new competitive world. We provide our children with a challenging, innovative and enterprising learning environment. To deliver the concept and ensure the child achieves knowledge, a proper methodology has to be adopted. There are so many ways used to deliver a lesson in the classroom. We use panel discussions, quiz, debates, role-plays, theatre/drama, panel discussions and symposiums as the co-scholastic measures supporting the routine classroom teaching. The teachers adopt various methodologies based on the subject, topic or theme.

The School regularly conducts aptitude based competitions such as word building, drawing, painting, theatre, singing, poetry writing, art, debates, quiz, elocutions (in English, Hindi and Kannada), storytelling, vegetable painting etc. These activities are conducted by professionals and we hope to get a sustained growth and result at the end of the day. Selecting from a wide range of activities below, we have already initiated, the following activities form an integral part of our curriculum:

Art Education

Visual Art & Performing Art Education constitutes an important area of curricular activity for development of wholesome personality of the students. We have specially designed an art lab to ignite the creative skills furnished with comfortable furniture and teaching aids.

Art education has always been an important area of curricular activity for students and aids in the development of the wholesome personality of the learners.

At Vishwa Vidyapeeth, we believe that Art helps the child to explore their creative and productive side in a joyful manner. It helps the child to feel a sense of fulfilment as it actually allows the child to explore verbal and non-verbal means of communication.

The benefit of integrating Art into Education is:

  • Helps to sharpen the senses through keen observation of their surroundings and the environment, in general.
  • Helps to develop a creative expression for the child
  • Helps the child to identify the personal form and style of expression
  • Helps to develop awareness of various art forms
  • Helps to allow them gain a sense of order in life with regard to themselves, their school, home as well as community at large
  • Helps to develop aesthetic sensibilities and respect for social values and cultural heritage.

At Vishwa Vidyapeeth, the idea of creative art involves the different elements of commonly known art forms like visual art, music, dance, drama, drawing, painting, modelling, pottery, poetry, crafts and other connected art forms.

We try to keep art education closer to our Indian roots so that children can learn more about our culture and tradition.

National Olympiad

The aim of introducing Olympiad exam is:

  • To provide a unique competitive platform to all.
  • To identify the young geniuses and create a talent pool for the future.

Olympiads are not just exams they do a lot more to bring out the best in a child. Olympiads motivate students to strive to think differently. A rank in the Olympiad develops a sense of confidence in the students and their parents.

Olympiads’ problem being tricky and more conceptual, it helps students to understand the topic well. This ultimately improves the thought process of the students. That enables them to think out of the box.

These exams help cultivate a kind of analytical thinking in the children which is the preparatory level for any examination, be it IIT-JEE or any other competitive exam.

Spell Bee

In continuance of spell genie programs at our campus, we regularly hold Spell Bee competitions for our children with an aim to:

  • Encourage students to explore the English Language
  • Help students to learn spell quickly, accurately and with comprehension
  • Awaken excellence, promote values and provide opportunity for students to meet and compete with their peers in an atmosphere of fun and friendship

These competitions are a wonderful learning source not only for the participants but also for their peers. It also helps to enrich the vocabulary bank of the students.

English Enrichment Classes:

Alongside the importance laid on learning regional languages, we stress on improving the English language skills of a child with the introduction of English Enrichment Classes. Being one of the most commonly spoken languages across the world, English is also the language used for international business.

Every week separate work and defined time is etched out for children to work on their English language skills. We conduct English enrichment special classes to help our students to cope up with the language. The language is important for the developing world and forms a gateway to international education forums on a later date.

Vishwa Vidyapeeth believes that the younger minds pick up the language skills more easily and hence right from Grade 1, we stress on all aspects of the language. A balance of the four key skills – Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing, is quintessential to improvise the children’s grasp on the language.

To help children further, we introduce more worksheets and activities based on English language learning. We encourage our children to experiment themselves using various language tools and picking up new words, week after week. Literary fests and regular library hours also add on to this exercise.

Studies have proved that English Enrichment classes serve great purpose, especially for young learners. According to research, the students reap different benefits from such additional activities that include increased recall and concentration skills, enhanced communication skills and better cooperation skills.

The skills of creativity and imagination are enhanced in various domains of learning; it provides children with an opportunity to boost their creativity. Emphasize immersive and experiential learning to make education less memorizing and more about making a memory!

Model United Nations (MUN) – in progress:

The Model United Nations (MUN) helps students understand the working of the United Nations and its committees. Students take part as delegates who represent world leaders, organisations or countries. It is a challenging activity that involves in-depth research, debate, discussion, critical thinking, leadership and decision making. Students are exposed to issues that impact the world today such as human rights, economic inequality, environment, food security, women’s rights and so on.

The first session of Vishwa Vidyapeeth MUN was held on the August of 30th and 31st, 2019. Serving as a platform in which more than 170 delegates come together to diplomatically debate and propose solutions to the world’s most pressing issues, VVPMUN took up the initiative to facilitate collaboration and communication with other delegates.

The conference put together Five Dynamic Committees – each of which consisted of diverse agenda and passionate Chairs. From the intricacies of the Security Council to the policies of the Committee on the Status of Women, delegates had to meticulously research and innovatively deliberate on the challenges we face in the twenty-first century.

CCA:

To ensure that we develop students’ interest in studies, classroom and school routine, we involve a large number of co-curricular activities for children. It nurtures student’s ability in co-operation, coordination and leads towards leadership. In short, we prepare children for future challenges.

Field Trips

Vishwa Vidyapeeth focuses on experiential learning. In order to support this, a variety of activities extending outside the school is conducted regularly. Field trips helps child to learn through experience and grasp the concept faster.

Field trips increase a student’s learning through active hands-on experience which in turn gives a boost to the student’s knowledge and understanding of a subject.

We ensure that good planning precedes the field trips. Careful attention is given to trip selection, pre-visit preparation, the trip itself, appropriate follow up, and evaluation. All teachers consult with their superiors while organising a field trip to ensure they follow the existing school board policies and recommended procedures.

Interhouse Programmes

Community is one of our maxims. Our Houses are like these small communities in themselves with their own distinctive character and atmosphere. Students are utmost loyal to their Houses and the many annual House competitions are keenly contested in a spirit of intense, but friendly rivalry.

Each House has its own Head Captains and House Monitors. Even the students are closely involved in the day-to-day running of the house along with the teachers. The main inter-house activities include both co – curricular as well as extra – curricular activities. There is a whole variety of inter house competitions and in many ways this has helped to bring the senior and junior students together for a common cause. The desire to bring points for their respective Houses outweighs all other commitments for these students.

Interschool Events

Vishwa Vidyapeeth hosts different inter school competitions which includes ‘Kaleidoscope’ (Interschool Art & Craft Mela), ‘Ecoventure’ (Interschool debate on ecological issues), ‘Nutcrackers’ (Interschool Preprimary competition) and ‘Boulderdash’ (Interschool Language festival). These types of inter-school competitions will help to build a sense of confidence and bonding amongst the students for their Alma Mater leading to overall development of a student.

Competition not only enhances the spirit of staying ahead amongst students but also helps to hone their socialization skills. It will help them get a fair idea about where they stand in such events which in turn will encourage them to beat it to the top.

Vishwa Vidyapeeth Students have a history of winning colours by putting up excellent performances in various inter-school sports competitions organised by the sports wing of the education department, sports associations and other organisations. The students are trained under the supervision of coaches for participating students in such competitions. Vishwa Vidyapeeth annually hosts some inter-school events which will help our students get exposure in terms of various talents in the field of sports. Recently VVP successfully hosted the TRIDENT CUP at its Yelahanka CBSE Campus which saw a participation of around 10+ schools from different parts of Bangalore.

VVP Students have brought in several laurels to the school with their excellent performances in various sports events at zonal, district, state and national level. This enhances the development of sports skills, high levels of discipline and team spirit.

Competition

There is a rush to reach to the pinnacle and in today’s rapidly changing world it is important to stay ahead of your competitors rather than denying its existence. Therefore, we make sure that our students get their fair share of participation in various competitions. We want to ensure that they appreciate the spirit of the contest, begin to love the anxious feeling before the start of any competition and mull over to put their huge talents up for all to see and acknowledge. This wonderful learning process prepares them to face the real world.

Newsletter

The school newsletter is released every three months and presents an exciting, interesting and involving view of the event fest at the school. The newsletter named “Vishwa Lekhana” is brought out to endorse the creative talents of the students and provide them recognition for their expression of original thoughts. We highlight the laurels and distinctions obtained by your children and also use it as a connection between the Parent and the School to help develop and foster our everlasting bond.
