What Is Experiential Learning?
Experiential learning is about altering perspectives and changing mind-sets by taking the learner outside their comfort zone and forcing them to actively engage and reflect on a subject matter.
Experiential learning is most commonly referred to as ‘learning by doing’. It is a process of learning that looks to make a lasting impression by essentially immersing participants in a direct personal journey of discovery.
Why Experiential Learning?
There are various benefits of experiential learning:
- It helps children become active learners rather than just imitating the bookish knowledge.
- It helps them to construct their own knowledge – which in turn changes them from mugging up portions to creating their own notes, resulting in better academic performance as well.
- Helps them to retain knowledge for a longer period of time in their life journey.
- Highly motivating for students.
- Helps students to be curious, creative, become critical thinkers and feel empowered to confidently participate in discussions or debates.
- Helps them to develop leadership capabilities to a significant level.
