Urban Farming
Vishwa Vidyapeeth has demarcated an area for Urban Farming. The aim is to give children exposure to the real farming practices. All children take turns to understand the basic procedure of preparing soil, sowing, adding manure and fertilizers, irrigation, harvesting and storage is taught to the children of all classes.
The idea is to start off the “Go Green” Initiative and contribute to bringing positive change in the society. Following are some of the activities planned every year in this regard:
- The concept of compost is introduced. Resources from School premises are being used to experiment with different kinds of compost.
- Students are encouraged to plant vegetables, learn to grow saplings, make plant beds, plan placement of shrubs and vines, and learn about water requirements and climate change.
- Incorporating organic farming principles in the garden, students will learn to prepare natural remedies to keep plants healthy and analyse how different insects and weeds are a part of the garden, and can contribute to healthy growth of plants.
