Vishwa Vidyapeeth scripted history by participating in the fourth edition of Skype-a-thon announced by Microsoft with the theme “Open Hearts, Open Minds” on 13th and 14th November, 2018.
Skype-a-thon is a fund-raising event organized by Microsoft to educate children of WE Villages supported by United Nations – Sustainable development goal quality education. This is a perfect tool to bring out a positive change globally by connecting hundreds of thousands of students, educators and guest speakers who gather over the skype in 48 hours. Over these two days, the total number of virtual miles travelled was 2,36,29,665 miles which has helped to raise funds needed to educate 35,000 less fortunate children who are spread across globally.
The whole-hearted support of our parents and the over-whelming response of our students helped Vishwa Vidyapeeth to reach our target of 11,57,492 virtual miles which added a feather to our cap. We were able to cross 260 sessions of skype which helped us cover more than 40 countries. Students were divided into batches which came in a rotation over 48 hours and each session had a breakup of Mystery Skype wherein the students on both sides took turns to decode the country to which they were connected. This was also followed by depiction of our country’s rich culture by our children through display of Yoga asanas, Folk dance forms, Rendition of music with instruments and indigenous art forms of India.
The highlight of this event were the series of interactions our students had with important educators and pioneers of Microsoft group like Mr Anthony Salcito, Mr Anand Eswaran, Mr Ross Smith, Ms. Iro and Ms Lauren Roberts. This event has opened up new doors of communication as well as instilled confidence in our students and laid the edifice for adopting the different methods of pedagogy.
